Train- Bergen to Oslo

This 6.5 hour trip through the mountains absolutely flew. We travelled in Komfort class which was a bonus as there was more space and, happily for us, tea and coffee supplied. Also, a dining car. They have one carriage for families, which has a playroom for children. So much better than flying,  plus we saw glaciers, deep, dark lakes, forests galore, snowdrifts, little red or black houses, fjords and amazing sub-arctic terrain, from one of the highest railway tracks in the world.
Towards Oslo, green fields with horses, cattle or sheep appeared as we sped down from the high plateau.

There was a fire in a tunnel we were about to enter at Myrdal, so there was a 50 minute wait while they put the fire out. They announced that we could take a walk on the platform, which many did. Eventually they announced that the train would be leaving in 5-6 minutes. No more than 2 minutes later, the train started to pull out and a young woman had the doors close in front of her. She banged on the door and ran alongside my window waving, but she'd missed the train! I told the conductor when he came past but he just said there would be another train soon. Don't know if she had bags on the train.

  1. I do like the sound of that train ride its the type of countryside I enjoy seeing.. Good opportunity for you to relax while taking in the sights. Not terribly keen on the ol' tunnel fire but keep in mind that regardless of position of fire if the tunnel is climbing a mountain always run down!!
