Jurmala

Took the train to Jurmala (30 min.). An interesting exercise for some getting on the train, as the steps are way above the platform. Over the Daugava River then past disused railyards, industry, small houses with back gardens full of fruit trees, high rise apartments, forests of pine and silver birch, till double storey homes appear as a glimpse through the trees.
Walked to the beach where I had a light lunch at the Baltic Beach Hotel in the Lobby Bar. The Caviar Club looked good but too upmarket when I'm on my own.
Jurmala is a pretty town and quite different from Riga, with beautiful restored timber homes and many trees.
