Shanks's pony

I'm writing this in the early hours as, after a full day of walking yesterday, I was too tired to blog. Began with a walk into the CBD, past The Royal Palace, across Norrbro (North Bridge) via The Royal Opera House and imposing classical architecture, into the busy shopping streets of Stockholm until I reached my destination-NK department store. Beautiful interior but, unfortunately, too upmarket for me. The day had grown considerably warmer, so I caught a taxi back to the hotel to join the others.

We spent the afternoon walking around historical Gamla Stan (Old Town), shopping for gifts and admiring the cobbled streets and decorated buildings. Had a delicious traditional, Swedish lunch at Sally's - meatballs with lingonberries, potatoes and shaved cucumber.
Visited Stockholm Cathedral with its impressive altar of silver and ebony and 15th century statue of St George and the dragon.

We finished the day with dinnner at the Hotel Reisen, where we began with a fabulous breakfast. Dinner didn't disappoint. An elegant asparagus soup with scallop, followed by a shrimp and salad main course.
